Jan qualified as a civil engineer and managed sites for major contractors (such as Balfour Beatty and Carillion) for 5 years before qualifying as a construction lawyer. She advises on all aspects of construction law including the procurement of projects, drafting and negotiating construction contracts and the resolution of any disputes arising - in particular disputes regarding payments and defects. Her approach is to always seek a commercial resolution of any dispute and avoid formal proceedings. This approach is borne from having gained in-depth experience of the construction industry and a unique ability to understand both the legal and technical aspects of any matter.
